New Years Eve Resolutions Need To Just Calm Down!

Well it’s that time of year again where we make ourselves promise insane things in 2015. Like that we are NEVER eating any processed sugar again. We are going to stop watching all reality shows. Gym every single day – BEAST MODE! We are cutting out ALL UNNECESSARY EXPENSES! By February even the most diligent person is going to go nuts with this all or nothing mentality.

1.      Yes Sugar Is An Evil Food That Makes You Feel Dopamine Like Never Before, I Know You Heart It

But drink more water. Don’t tell yourself no sugar and you are never going to eat a piece of cheesecake again because its going to make you crazy. Eat the cheesecake but do NOT drink the soda. Eating sugar is more satisfying than drinking it in sugary drinks. So let’s take a baby step, more water.

2.      Remember That Just Moving When You Can Is Exercise!

Rethink exercise. Many of us make sweeping goals to join and go to a gym every day in the new year or becoming a CrossFit Olympian is too much too soon. The smartest thing you can do is focus on simply moving your body more. That’s it! Things like walking for an hour while on a business call instead of sitting at your desk, cleaning the house for a couple hours instead of paying someone else to do it, or heading to yoga with a girlfriend instead of sitting at coffee really add up. It’s much more simple than we realize and you don’t need a daunting, painful workout plan in order to reap the benefits and burn calories. You’re also much more likely to stay active and keep moving when you’re enjoying yourself versus killing yourself with crazy-hard workouts.

3.      You Are Never Buying Yourself Anything Again But Food And Gas

You’re going to use your smart phone all the time, might as well get a free app that saves you money in store with pretty much everything! Coupon Sherpa brings for you latest coupons for products ranging from food to games, gadgets to grocery, electronic items to clothing, it shares it all! If you are lucky you may even find coupons for online sites. I have has serious luck with this app at stores like Target, JC Penney and Publix.

        4. It’s the Year You Don’t Plan To Drive Anywhere Unless You Have To Because Fixing Your Car Is Astronomical

You have to get an oil change anyway four times a year why not make it super affordable. Plus, with your social media accounts you are on every day you can save 10% on all repairs. That’s about $400 in savings a year for a standard car like a Honda or Toyota. Might as well come to Bill Tyson’s Auto Repair and take advantage of our discounts and oil change package. It’s $14.99 per standard oil change and we can save you on any other repairs or maintenance jobs you may need.

Car issues that make you anxious like the Walking Dead with Ebola

Bringing in your car when you know something other than an oil change may be needed because it's been acting funny can make anyone nervous. This is like watching the Ebola virus come closer to Florida or waiting for the next Walking Dead episode. It gets tense. We get it. We know that a $10,000 estimate is ridiculous but has happened to you before.

Here are the top things that you can do, should do in the future and what you should never do.

    CAN DO
    - ask friends or family for a trusted auto repair shop
    - bring it in as soon as possible for an estimate
    - if you still don't feel right get a second opinion

    SHOULD DO
    - in the future, if you notice anything, don't let it go for too long
    - look for reviews on Yelp, Facebook, and talk to people who you know have had work done on their cars. If they had a less than great experience, they will tell you where to AVOID.
    - find an auto repair store near you, like Bill Tyson's Auto Repair, that does a thorough 21 point inspection even when you bring it in for something small like an oil change. We let you know if their is trouble ahead for free.

    SHOULD NEVER DO
    - you do NOT have to stick to the dealership service center (it will not void your warranty)
    - do NOT let a small problem sit until it becomes a big expensive problem
    - do NOT be afraid to ask about Loyalty and Discount Programs, we have one at Bill Tyson's Auto Repair

we fix horse trailers. we fix fleet trucks. we pack wheel bearings. whats wrong with my car. my ac isn't working.

What You Need Checked For Long Road Trips

Local, affordable and happy to help

Are you going on a long road trip soon? Or maybe moving? Or going back home after an extended stay in Wellington for the equestrian festivities?

Did you know that towing a trailer makes long distance driving all the more reason to have your car checked before you start your trip? You really should have it check out beforehand because the last thing you want is to get stuck on the side of the road.

    Checklist:
    • tire pressure
    • tire tread (check spare tire too)
    • engine oil level
    • automatic transmission fluid
    • coolant levels
    • wiper blades
    • head and tail lights
    • washer fluid
    • strut alignment
    • belts and steering components
    • jumper cables
Something as small as a flat tire can slow down your ETA to your destination and be a minor inconvenience you can just patch up. However, a serious engine issue or a cracked belt can leave you stuck for a day or two. Either possibilities can both be mostly preventable.

For the families that will be traveling during the summer or holidays we always like to give your car a quick inspection. Or even for those that come down from Illinois or Kentucky for the equestrian festivities every year, we are happy to look over your trucks, trailers and inspect the whole fleet. Safety isn't just being careful. It's being proactive.

Come in to Bill Tyson's Auto Repair today in either Royal Palm Beach or Wellington. Our mechanics are happy to get you back on the road quickly and safely.

What is going on with my car's Air/Con? Why is my A/C not as cold?

Do you notice that your car's air conditioning system is not what it once was? It’s pretty noticeable when you live in South Florida! It’s pretty common and not just in warm weather conditions. We want to let you know how and why this happens. Some of it is preventable or maybe even an easy fix and something we can get quickly resolved for you.

    1.       Leaks: This is the number one problem. We even have special on the diagnostic package for leaks!  If you have never taken your car for a coolant flush or had it refilled and it's been 30,000 miles plus – you need a flush! And bad! Ask our store managers about our ½ lb. of UV Dye and Refrigerant.

    2.       Makes noise it didn’t before:  It becomes noticeably noisier than it was when your AC is turned on. To you it may just sound like noise you have gotten used to but for us it sounds like problems with the compressor. If you hear it, be sure to bring it in to our Royal Palm Beach or Wellington location for a quick and easy inspection.

    3.       Temperature changes:  It starts out really cold and then just cool or maybe it never gets that cold. There could be a bad thermostat or a constraint somewhere in the structure.  Easily diagnosed by our latest technologies.

    4.       Bad battery:  Did you know a bad battery can cause your auto air conditioner work out of sorts or not even at all? It might have enough juice to drive the rest of the car, but not enough for less important things like the A/C

    5.       Dirty Evaporators: Musky or mildews’ smells happen when bacteria buildup in the evaporator. Our ASE-trained mechanics have the appropriate tools to sanitize yours the same day and get you back on the road smelling fresh.

We are always here for you at Bill Tyson’s Auto Repair. We know that car trouble can be a drag and that you need your car to get home, to work or school. It’s an important part of your day. We are happy to help. Come see us, we are happy to help.

5 Most Common Car Issues, your free sound advice from the Mechanics

Do you get nervous when the CHECK ENGINE light comes on?  We understand.

Did you know the average car driving around daily is around 8 years old? Maintenance is the key to keeping it running healthy and from running into bigger problems.

Think of the light as a way to problems and extend the life of a car. Often, it's warning about problems that can be avoided by keeping up with regular maintenance before it turns into something big and expensive. Don't panic, we have the 5 most common problems and about what it can run you. Free, quality advice.

    Faulty oxygen sensor

The sensor measures the amount of unburned oxygen in the exhaust and tells the car's computer how much fuel is in the tank. The car's gas mileage will go down and send incorrect information to the computer. It can be $200+/- to repair.

    Loose or missing gas cap

This happens a lot! I know it sounds obvious but believe it or not we have this happen often. We tighten the gas cap for free, or replace it for a few dollars. If it's not replaced, gas will evaporate from the car and decrease its gas mileage. That means more frequent refills at the pump and who wants that?!

    Broken catalytic converter

Prevention can stop you from paying in the neighborhood of $2,000. The catalytic converter uses a catalyst — a metal like platinum — to convert harmful gases left over from combustion to less harmful emissions. A catalytic converters generally won't fail unless a related part, like a spark plug goes bad. Keep up with scheduled maintenance and you can dodge the bullet.

    Malfunctioning mass air flow sensor

This sensor measures the amount of air supplied to the engine, which determines how much fuel should be delivered. When it goes south, the car will move forcefully and spill in fuel  so you get a decrease in fuel economy. This goes from $450+/- to have it repaired.

    Misfiring spark plugs

Spark plugs are small but essential, since they make the car go by igniting the compressed fuel in an internal combustion engine. Misfiring spark plugs can affect engine power and fuel economy and can also cost you a big ticket item, the catalytic converter.

The most expensive cars to repair? Hybrids. They remain rare enough that their parts are pricier and fewer technicians are trained to fix them. We are trained for this at Bill Tyson's and will always work to get you a fair price with the best warranties.

Just remember, don't panic. It can be a simple fix. We are happy to do it no matter what the fix is. Our mechanics in Royal Palm and Wellington are ready to give you an oil change, find out about your check engine light and even check out your car with a 21 point inspection. Its better to know how your brakes are doing before they go out! We are here to help.
